alain delorme captures the balletic murmurations of wild birds

the images of french photographer alain delorme seemingly capture a rare and extraordinary moment in the natural world: the murmurations of birds, balletic, synchronized, and dramatically graceful. however, upon closer inspection, the viewer discovers what is really behind the flock — calligraphic shapes made up of thousands of plastic bags, meticulously arranged by the artist. the mass of bags twist, weave, and undulate in concert with each other creating a visual mesh of kinetic fluctuation. the digital creations reflect the idea of a land art installation, metamorphosing natural spaces through an artistic intervention. delorme seizes a poetic moment in time, photographing the mammoth, cloud-like dance against a polychromatic sunset. the series of images ‘murmurations’,taking their namesake from the wildlife phenomenon, are exhibited at taubert contemporary gallery, berlin until november 9th, 2103.
